QS 2026 by Subject: Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne among the world's top 100 in 15 subjects

In the 2026 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, published on 25th March, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University continues to strengthen its position as a leading global higher education and research institution in the humanities and social sciences. The university is ranked in two broad subject areas and 24 narrow subjects.

Global top 50 in 11 subjects

Among the 1,908 institutions worldwide ranked across the five broad subject areas and 55 narrow subjects assessed by QS, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne is featured in 24 subjects and ranked in two broad areas (18th in Arts & Humanities and 57th in Social Sciences & Management).

As in 2025, the university is recognised among the world’s top 50 institutions in 11 subjects and stands out particularly in Classics and Ancient History (11th), Archaeology (12th), History (15th) and Law (19th), where it reaches the global top 20.

For the first time, the university enters the ranking in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, in the #101–200 range. It also improves its position in 12 narrow subjects, with significant gains in Sociology (+24), Classics and Ancient History (+11), Economics and Econometrics (+11) and Geography (+11).

France’s leading institution in the humanities and social sciences

At the domestic level, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne once again stands out this year by retaining the top position in nine subjects: Archaeology, Art History, Classics and Ancient History, Communication & Media Studies, Development Studies, Geography, History, Law and Philosophy.

In the two broad subject areas in which it is ranked, the university also maintains its first place in France in Arts & Humanities and third place in Social Sciences & Management.

To establish these rankings, QS relies on five key indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, research output and impact, and international research network.

The results of this 2026 edition once again confirm the international standing of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and the widely recognised quality of its programmes and research.
