Strengthening cooperation with Saudi Arabia
From 17th to 24th October 2021, a delegation from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne conducted an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on the invitation of the French diplomatic mission, with the purpose of reinforcing academic and cultural cooperation with several Saudi institutions.
The visit started in Riyadh where the delegation, accompanied by the French Embassy’s cooperation attachée, met with King Saud University (KSU) to work on strengthening the existing partnership between the two universities, notably in the field of archaeology. The delegation also visited Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University (PNU) and King Abdulaziz City for Science & Technology (KACST) both established in the capital city, to identify potential areas of scientific cooperation. The delegation of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, led by its Vice President in charge of International Relations Pr. Camille Salinesi, was also honoured to meet with H.E. Ludovic Pouille, French Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to discuss new opportunities of academic bilateral relationships.
On 20th October, the delegation was welcomed by the University of Business & Technology (UBT) in Jeddah, to attend the certification ceremony of the third edition of the Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne & UBT Law Summer School, which was held in June 2021. Organised by the Centre for Middle East & North Africa of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne’s International Relations Department, the joint programme offered courses in Public International Law, International Commercial Arbitration, and Environment and Energy Law to 80 students. The delegation was delighted to award them their certificates of completion in the presence of representatives of the UBT, as well as the Consulate General of France in Jeddah. Following the ceremony, the delegation had a meeting with the UBT to draw an appraisal of the Law Summer School and to reflect on its future editions.
The visit ended in AlUla between 21st and 23rd October, where the delegation was delighted to meet with the French Agency for AlUla Development (AFALULA), along with representatives from the French Embassy in Riyadh, before visiting together key historical and cultural sites, namely the Old Town, Dadan, Harrats Belvedere, the AlUla oasis, Hegra, the Maraya Business and Special Events Centre and Jabal Ikmah. The delegation took the opportunity to acquaint with the extensive field work conducted by the European archeologists present in AlUla, many of whom are students and researchers from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, but also members of the Archaïos scientific research society. Finally, the delegation was pleased to visit the Royal Commission for AlUla and meet with its representatives and a number of archeologists to discuss future opportunities of cooperation in this scientifically-promising context.
تعزيز التعاون مع المملكة العربية السعودية
قام وفد من جامعة باريس 1 بانتيون - سوربون بزيارة رسمية إلى المملكة العربية السعودية في الفترة الممتدة بين 17 و 24 أكتوبر 2021، بدعوة من البعثة الدبلوماسية الفرنسية، و ذلك بهدف تعزيز التعاون الأكاديمي والثقافي مع العديد من المؤسسات العلمية السعودية.
الزيارة انطلقت في الرياض حيث التقى الوفد، مرفوقا بملحق التعاون بالسفارة الفرنسية، بجامعة الملك سعود (KSU) للعمل على تقوية الشراكة القائمة بين الجامعتين لا سيما في مجال علم الآثار. كما زار الوفد جامعة الأميرة نورة بنت عبد الرحمن (PNU) ومدينة الملك عبد العزيز للعلوم والتقنية (KACST) لتصور سبل التعاون في جملة من الميادين العلمية. هذا و كان لبعثة باريس 1 بانتيون - سوربون، و في مقدمتها نائب رئيسها المسؤول عن العلاقات الدولية الأستاذ كاميي سالينيسي، شرف لقاء معالي السفير الفرنسي لدى المملكة العربية السعودية السيد لودوفيك بوي، لمناقشة الفرص الجديدة لتطوير العلاقات الأكاديمية بين البلدين.
في 20 أكتوبر، استقبلت جامعة الأعمال والتكنولوجيا بجدة (UBT) الوفد بمناسبة حفل توزيع الشهادات للنسخة الثالثة من المدرسة الصيفية للحقوق بجامعتي باريس 1 بانتيون ـ سوربون و جامعة الأعمال و التكنولوجيا، والتي عقدت في جوان 2021. بتنظيم من مركزالتعاون الجامعي مع المغرب و الشرق الأوسط بإدارة العلاقات الدولية بجامعة باريس 1 بانتيون ـ سوربون، قدم البرنامج المشترك دورات تكوينية استفاد منها 80 طالبًا و ذلك في اختصاصات القانون الدولي العام والتحكيم التجاري الدولي وقانون البيئة والطاقة. لقد كان من دواعي سرور الوفد منح الطلاب شهاداتهم بحضور ممثلين عن جامعة الأعمال والتكنولوجيا و أيضا عن مكتب القنصلية العامة الفرنسية في جدة. هذا و التقى الوفد عقب الحفل مع جامعة الأعمال والتكنولوجيا لتقييم مدرسة الحقوق الصيفية و الاعداد لنسختها القادمة.
مثلت منطقة العلا المحطة النهائية للزيارة و كان ذلك في الفترة الممتدة بين 21 و 23 أكتوبر، حيث سعد الوفد بلقاء الوكالة الفرنسية لتطويرمحافظة العلا (AFALULA)، إلى جانب ممثلين عن السفارة الفرنسية في الرياض، قبل القيام بزيارات مشتركة لمواقع أثرية وثقافية مميزة، وهي: بلدة العلا القديمة، دادان، مطل حرة عويرض، واحة العلا، الحجر، مسرح مرايا، و جبل عكمة. كانت الزيارة فرصة للتعرف على العمل الميداني المكثف الذي يضطلع به علماء الآثار الأوروبيون المتواجدون بالعلا، وكثير منهم طلاب وباحثون من جامعة باريس 1 بانتيون سوربون، و أعضاء في وحدة البحث العلمي أركايوس. كما كانت البعثة مسرورة بزيارة الهيئة الملكية لمحافظة العلا ولقاء ثلة من ممثليها وعدد من علماء الآثار لمناقشة فرص التعاون المستقبلية في هذا المجال الواعد.
