60 students from seven countries take part in the 2023 International Summer School

From 18th June to 6th July, students from all over the world had the opportunity to enroll in the Panthéon-Sorbonne International Summer School, coordinated by the International Relations Department. This 100% online summer school enabled participants to take one or two specialist legal courses (public international law and environmental and energy law), taught entirely in English.

Building on the Law Summer School organised in partnership with the University of Business and Technology (UBT) in Jeddah over the past four years, the new format of this short programme, open to a wider international audience, brought together nearly 60 students from different backgrounds. Among them were many participants from Saudi Arabia, as well as several students from some of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne's key partner institutions, including Howard University (United States) and Universidad del Rosario (Colombia). France, Greece, Lebanon and the United Kingdom complete the list of countries represented.

The first twenty-hour course on environmental and energy law was held from 18th to 22nd June, enabling 47 participants to study the impact of energy on international relations, and to learn more about the legal frameworks established by international organisations to regulate environmental protection and energy use.

More than half of these students also attended the public international law course taught by two professors from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne from 2nd to 6th July. In total, almost 40 participants had the opportunity to discover the sources of international law and the legal principles and norms that govern relations between states, international organisations and individuals. These five days enabled students to become familiar with topics such as state jurisdiction, international responsibility, the settlement of disputes, the use of force, as well as the environment and natural resources.
