French-Egyptian Forum: Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne strengthens its cooperation with Egypt

Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University took part in the first French-Egyptian Forum for scientific and academic cooperation, which was held on 7th and 8th April 2025 in Cairo, in the presence of the French President Emmanuel Macron. This event provided an opportunity to strengthen the university's collaborations with several Egyptian higher education institutions.

A new momentum for French-Egyptian academic cooperation

Bringing together numerous ministerial and institutional representatives from both countries – including, from the French side, the Minister in charge of Higher Education and Research, the Director-General of Campus France, the President of the High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (Hcéres), and the Chairman and CEO of the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) – this Forum featured several sessions dedicated to the internationalisation of higher education and research, highlighting examples of French-Egyptian cooperation and including official signings of academic partnership agreements.

Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and Egypt: a long-standing collaboration

Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University took advantage of this Forum to sign a new agreement in archaeology with Cairo University, further strengthening its ties with Egypt's largest public university. The signing of a consortium agreement with the French University of Egypt (UFE) – with which Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne already collaborates on two off-campus programmes in tourism, at both bachelor's and master's levels – also opens up new prospects for French-Egyptian academic relations. The project for the new UFE campus was also presented to the attending delegations, showcasing shared ambitions for the future.

For over thirty years, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne has maintained continuous international cooperation with Egypt, particularly through its programmes in economics, political science, and law. During the Forum, the speeches by Nihal Hashem, assistant professor at the French section of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science (FESP), and Hana Wafa, alumni of the Sorbonne Law School in Cairo, highlighted the quality of these academic partnerships and their significant contribution to the career paths of students, both in Egypt, France, and beyond.
